AUDIO EQUIPMENT JG1
We ran an audio production business for many many years and then placed everything into storage when we lived overseas for a couple of years.
Now that we are back, this equipment no longer has a purpose for our needs - a new home is needed!
ARX Audio Power Amplifier
Model ZR 350
40K Ohm input impedance
Balanced inputs on both XLR and 6.5mm TRS connectors
Channel A & B outputs on Neutrik Speakon connectors
Bridged output seperate to A/B on Neutrik Speakon connector
THD @ Full Output 0.002%
IMD @ Full Output 0.005%
S/N greater than 100dB
Channel seperation greater than -88dB
Mosfet output transistors which mean very very fast rise/fall times
Frequency response @ Full output 20Hz to 20Khz but note this is the .4dB points, not the standard 3dB points so the frequency response using the 3dB measurements would be much wider.
RMS Power Output is 100W per channel - 8 Ohm load
RMS Power Output when bridged is 300W into 8 Ohms - mono channel
Notice that ARX uses very conservative technical specifications are "true" - if you look at other amplifiers of this type such as QSC, they show off Peak values for output or use EIA measurements or heaven's forbid, load impedances of 2 Ohms which are not very realistic in the real world, whereas the true audio standard is always RMS.
These THD, IM and SN specifications are also superior to many other suppliers equipment.
Optional (NOT SUPPLIED) modules can be fitted internally, modules were available to perform these tasks:
PMX-Pro Processor-on-a-card for PMX 12 speakers
MM-Pro Processor-on-a-card for all MM-1 speakers
EC PlugIn Active Crossover-on-a-card
The last photograph shows the module connector.
Excellent equipment from an Australian company - I think this is the first piece of gear where the employees who put the equipment together and tested it are on the PCB!
2RU high, standard rack width with ears fitted
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Low noise, highly efficient toroidal power transformer
Easy dual channel bridging of BOTH the outputs and inputs
Automatic output load detection - shutdown
Output muting at turn on and turn off - no "thumping"
Special "Headroom" circuitry to give maximum levels at full output
Dual fan cooling throughout the cabinet, from front to the back.
LED status indicators for Clip, Bridge, and Protection shut down
Although you could use this as a studio monitoring amplifier, the fan noise would be a distraction - its not terribly noisy but it doesnt run silently either.
TESTING:
The only item that doesnt appear to be working is the ON-OFF switch does not illuminate when on although I am assuming it is supposed to, I might be wrong on this.
I pushed this amplifier very hard today, all day - on each channel and also in the bridged configuration.
No problems at all - the unit hardly warmed up even at full power and did not give any problems at all - nice clean uncoloured audio.
Now, it must be realised this is amplifier is designed for an 8 or 4 ohm output load but via a step-up transformer setup (not supplied), you can run multiple speaker systems off the output without creating impedance problems.
This type of arrangement is often referred to as either a 70V or 100V output system.
All testing was made using standard 8 Ohm speakers as loads. If you are looking at running multiple speakers and/or long cable runs and are not familiar with how to set this up, there is a lot of information online about 100V systems for audio use.
These units are designed for professional use in situations where reliability, high quality are of paramount importance - the ARX is a very nice unit and Australian designed/made to boot.
